Periorbital veins are visible veins that develop in the area around the upper or lower eyelids. These enlarged, often annoying veins can be flat or raised, which might make it difficult to conceal them, especially when they are a dark purple color. What makes them visible in this area is the decrease of fat over the years, as well as thinning of the skin.
Periorbital veins can be safely treated using lasers such as the Cutera Xcel V+ Vascular Laser Nd:YAG. The laser light is applied after appropriate eye-protection googles are worn, and the light heats the vessel. It is mostly painless, and 2-3 treatments are usually necessary. Treating the veins around the eyes does not affect the circulation of the eye, as they are outside the eye, and under the skin.
We do not inject periorbital veins with sclerotherapy, but treat them with the noninvasive Cutera Xcel V+ Laser at the New York location. Few sessions are necessary for optimal results. Feel free to schedule a consultation!
